They are small pin point lesions one or more painful sores on inner lips, gums tongue, roof of the mouth or throat that may interfere with eating, such as a canker sore.

Some predisposing factors for recurrent mouth ulcers:

Major aphthous – they are ulcers which are greater in size more than one centimeter. These are non-contagious and slightly deeper.

Prevention
– Drink plenty of water keep yourself hydrated at all times. This will decrease the episodes of ulceration to a great extent
– Avoid hot and spicy food to not irritate your ulcer. Spicy food causes burning sensation and is very uncomfortable while eating
– Do warm saline gargles two to three times daily for fast recovery. These gargles are a homemade remedy to reduce inflammation in and around the ulcer. It acts as a soothing agent.
– The ulcers will take maximum seven days to heal. If they are troubling you for more than two weeks contact your dentist immediately. Even larger size ulcers are an alarming sign.
– Good oral hygiene.
